I use 1password both on my PC and my Mac. As a developer, I can totally understand why they would be moving towards Electron. It's much easier to maintain one code base, instead of having two teams fix the (possibly) same problems on two code bases and hire people to work on different languages (most likely C# vs. Swift?). So it maybe comes down to just simplifying the development process. I'm not sure about Electron's internals and if there's some platform specific code (like Flutter does), but I would assume this is the only reason they made the switch.

I still believe that 1Password doesn't want to lose their customer base, so most likely they've done their due dilligence on making sure Electron is safe to use. People just whine about "battery life" and performance, but this doesn't impact me. I often close 1Password once I've retrieved the password I need and you can always use the web browser version!

On the topic of subscription based pricing... this is just something everyone is doing. Get on with the program. I am extremely happy to pay a subscription fee to make sure I have the latest security updates on an app that safeguards all my credentials. When SaaS applications came out I was hesitant on paying the monthly fees etc. but I've gotten used to them.

What a bunch of noise about nothing, really.
